Yesterday I killed like the biggest fly I ever saw in my room. It was probably half an inch big and it took so many tries to squash it fully. When I inspected the squashed carcass of the fly, I saw a bunch of live maggots coming out of it and wiggling on the body. It was so disgusting. The maggots were little worms that had a light skin-like color and were just squirming around. I had never seen a fly that big and never seen maggots come out of it when it was squashed so I looked it up.

Apparently, that type of fly is a flesh fly, not a regular house fly. Flesh flies are larger than regular house flies and they live off of the decaying meats of other organisms. I just opened my pork chops and put the empty tray of them in the trash which is probably what caused the flesh fly to come.

Flesh flies are ovoviviparous which means that they produce eggs that hatch inside of them and release live offspring. The egg hatches in the mother but is nurtured without an umbilical cord until it is ready to hatch. Some other examples of ovoviviparous animals are sharks, rays, snakes, fish, and insects.

This was a very random post but I thought it was interesting because it literally came from the fact that I saw maggots on a giant fly I killed.
