Surah 2 was disgustingly long. It kept going and going and was super dense. There were so many things in here about Islam that I can’t even count.
- There was information about marriage and stuff that is allowed. Menstruation is said to be dangerous.
- There is a verse (verse 255) which talks about God and a throne and is said to be the most powerful verse in the Quran.
- Polytheistic people are haram and disbelievers are the worst.
- There was a situation where a prophet needed reassurance that God was real and powerful so God told him to cut a bird into pieces and scatter the 4 pieces on different places. Then the bird came back to life and flew back to the prophet.
- There are strikingly lots of mentions of gender equality- “Do not marry polytheistic women until they believe; for a believing slave-woman is better than a free polytheist, even though she may look pleasant to you. And do not marry your women to polytheistic men until they believe, for a believing slave-man is better than a free polytheist, even though he may look pleasant to you.”
- This is where it says that you cannot eat swine in Islam.
- Lots of other things are said here too. This is where prayer is talked about. It says the third prayer (afternoon prayer) is the most important prayer.
- You can pray on horseback or standing up if you feel unsafe.
- Before you pray you need to do a ritual which includes washing feet.
- Holy months in Islam are 1st, 7th, 11th, and 12th months. Ramadan is special too.
- Ramadan is talked about here.
- Fasting is also used to be a method of suffering that teaches.
I’m writing this down way past the date I finished the Surah so I’m forgetting lots of main things. They are in my brain, I know they are, but they are hidden somewhere.
