I just finished reading this one in the past 24 hours so it’s still fresh in my brain. There are 200 verses in this Surah.
- People of the book are people that the book was revealed to before (Jewish people and people who read the old Testament). It is said that some people of the book who don’t accept Allah are going to be punished. However, some people of the book who accept Allah and submit to him and do everything Muslims do and stuff will be accepted by Allah and will go to Heaven.
- Jesus substitution theory is here. Very interesting. This is the most popular belief although there are many interpretations of this- Jesus was switched out with a look-alike before he was crucified. The real Jesus did not die on the cross. How curious!
- Maryam is the mother of Jesus. Apparently, Maryam is the only woman name mentioned in the whole Quran. She was a virgin and when she was told that she would have a child, she asked how can I have a child when she had never been touched by a man? God or a prophet or someone said that because it is Allah’s will that she will birth Jesus, she didn’t need to be touched by a man.
- The Battle of Uhud was talked about here. In 625 AD, an army of 3000 Meccans tried to storm Muhammad’s stronghold in Medina. In this event lots of people were judged by Allah. Lots of people were tested on how strong their faith is.
- Sickness, poverty, and other misfortunes in people’s lives are tests from Allah. He is testing you to see how you will react.
- Martyrs and people who are killed and persecuted for causes related to Allah will experiences the best prosperity in heaven and will enjoy Allah’s endless bounty.
- Muhammad was the last prophet and people who say that he is not the last prophet and try to claim there are more are disbelievers and will experience flames of hell.
At this point, I feel like I’m getting the sense of what Islam is. Very presumptuous of me to say this with having just read 3 Surahs but I see the main point of stuff.
